1983: Member, Order of Canada

The Order of Canada is the centrepiece of Canada’s Honours System and recognizes a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. The Order recognizes people in all sectors of Canadian society. Their contributions are varied, yet they have all enriched the lives of others and made a difference to this country. The Order of Canada’s motto is DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM (They desire a better country).

1995: BC Sports Hall of Fame

The BC Sports Hall of Fame is a non-profit, self-sustaining society that was founded in 1966 by the late Eric Whitehead and a group of sports minded individuals. The goal was to establish a permanent tribute honouring BC’s outstanding athletes, teams and builders of sport.

2000: The Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame

The Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame has honoured more than 100 inductees. Worthy individuals and teams are nominated by a committee of the Board, which then votes with a three quarters approval required for induction. The successful inductees are presented to the public at an annual awards ceremony.

2001: Canadian Sports Hall of Fame

Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1955 to preserve the record of Canadian sports achievements and to promote a greater awareness of our nation’s sport heritage. Currently, the Hall profiles 54 different sports and more than half of the inductees are Olympians.
